Rosenberg Lofts, London
An extensive remodelling and extension of two dilapidated Victorian terraces into a modern and contextual mixed use building fronting
Ridley Road Market, Hackney.
The existing building has been partially demolished and rebuilt using existing recycled materials where possible, to create a new restaurant and four large 'loft-style' apartments. In order to maximise floor space, the building was extended at basement level, to the rear and at roof level. Although the site is highly constrained with limited daylight and outlook at the rear, the massing has been carefully configured around a courtyard to achieve excellent levels of daylight whilst ensuring a sense of privacy between occupants.
Great care has been taken to produce proposals for a modern but contextual addition to Ridley Road. The facades are composed of a precast concrete 'plinth', recycled brickwork and a zinc clad mansard roof.
The apartments are fully fitted out using recycled floorboards, cast iron fittings, brickwork feature walls and exposed steelwork, creating a ‘loft-style’ aesthetic synonymous to the local area. The warehouse 'feel' is reinforced by maximising floor-to-ceiling heights and introducing large windows wherever possible.
